In the current “Success” magazine, English Literature specialist, Mireille Guiliano purposes a worthy resolution for 2009. “Pursue your passion,” Guiliano advises. “If you live what you love, you will love your life!”
Good suggestion. From food to friendship to family. Savor the moment. Relish the good times together.
There are many ways we can build unity and relationships. Let’s focus on the family. If at all possible, sit down together for at least one meal a day. Share the day’s events. Learn from each other and express gratitude all around.
Try a good after-dinner game; something that will captivate, involve and teach, even to the point where ipods, the TV and the Internet take a back seat.
A game I have in mind is the sweetest thing out there! It will amuse, challenge and teach basic language and math skills. Listening comprehension is a great by product. What parent doesn’t hope for that skill? There’s absolutely nothing like it. You’ll love what it will do for you and yours. Interested? I’ll tell you more next time.
Within most family units, we will find some connection to a veteran. Our nation was built upon the efforts of so many who stood for what they believed in and defended our right to worship God, how, when and where we choose. Veterans living today were involved in similar efforts. Fighting for freedon and honor. War is horrible, but when required, we are grateful for those who train and do there best to serve honorably. Our soldiers around the world today are serving us, and deserve our honor and respect. Read the rest of this entry »
What a beautiful day this has been. The Autumn colors were at a peak around my Kentucky home. Surrounded my a mulitple variety of trees, all aglow in their colorful finery, I rejoice in the beauty and freedom of our country. I have been reading a very good book about one man has made such a difference in the lives of those in countries so torn by invasions and conflicts. He is building schools with the idea that the more educated our children are the more peace will come. The book is Three Cups of Tea, One man’s Mission to Promote Peace.. One school at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. Read the rest of this entry »
Halloween is a day for the children and the child in each of us. We all love to pretend, imagine and experience life through this creative outlet.
One man who has dedicated his life to empowering children every day is Orrin Hudson and his BeSomeOne program. The former state trooper and veteran made the decision to do something more than just watch as children were killing children. Through the powerful tool of the game of chess, he empowers children, which in turn empowers families. Family relationships are built on respect, loyalty, taking responsibility and making the right moves which are taught along with the game of chess in his visits schools, camps and anywhere he can touch a child’s life.
www.BeSomeOne.org is a place to visit to become active in helping youth in your community. Let’s join together and make a difference.
Is life on the fast pace? Are frustrations building; everyone seeming to get in your way?
Is there a prescription that will aid your view of life? We have all heard of or been accused of seeing life through rose-colored glasses. Often it is used in a negative way. But perhaps more of us need to look at life from glasses that paint a better picture. Not one full of negatives and sharp criticism or impatience. Is that really possible? Take a look at this video for a clue. We can build better relationships with those around us and have a more meaningful and happy life.

Thinking back on the history of America, we see how important families were in making a success in the economy. Families worked together to survive and thrive. The industrial age, brought many families in the cities and away from that type of family effort.
Today, we are seeing the tide swinging toward family and couples setting out to bring together a lifestyle were the skills and talents of each member are being monetized. Bed and Breakfasts, small, family owned restaurants are just a few. But the exciting concept of entrepreneurship is such a welcome wave that I endorse. Especially the kind that includes the children and what better way to teach the concepts of business, money management and responsibility, not to mention family loyalty and cooperation.
I just love being able to envision families being strengthened and fortified with meaningful work and reward. This is truly a great way to build family relationships. More families need to really consider and seek out such opportunities. There is much to learn together, and much to gain focusing on goals and self development and real service.
Families do Count! We are often inundated with messages of the high cost of raising children. Young adults question if they should have children and often postpone having them based on financial issues. This is a refreshing cost comparison of raising children based on the government’s statistics. Dollar for dollar rate of return on investment is offered for you consideration. What conclusions will you make?
Home is where you build family relationships. Best to begin from first day of marriage and when the children are coming, added focus goes to the child even in the embryo stage. Children’s basic character system is influenced most heavily before the age of eight. Valuable time management is required to devote the time necessary to build those family relationships and values we desire. Read the rest of this entry »
This is such a funny look at how we often perform in our family relationships on a daily basis. We laugh because this is so true! Carol Ann Stott www.netweb-ads.com/familiescount/2
Sharping the tools around the house is a necessity for achieving percision and quicker results. It holds true in the kitchen, in the yard as well as in other areas of a busy household. What fun it is when all are working well and we can achieve our necessary tasks with ease.
How many think about this when it comes to money management? What tools are available for us to use? Interest accelerations, time value of money, using other people’s money, not letting money sit idle are just a few. Wise use of money has depended on these tools for generations. Eistein is often quoted for his statement on those who understand interest, earn it; those who don’t pay it. Read the rest of this entry »
